BUSINESS CLASS Review
2017 Malaysia Airlines A330 Kul-Syd:
No matter what anyone says, I like Malaysia Airlines. I fly Malaysian Airlines with my Malaysian wife to Kuala Lumpur once every two years.
Yes they have had some bad luck with two separate incidents. But other airlines have them too.
I flew Business Class using points on one leg, Kul-Syd. I was so looking forward to it. But unfortunately I was not feeling well upon leaving KL.
The cabin crew are very friendly and the service is pretty good.
We had row 5 on the right side. Two seats together. One thing to notice in these business class seats is that it is not wide.
It is comfortable and they have an array of seating positions. I have a lean frame and it leaves a couple of inches on each side of me.
Also be warned that if you want to put your small personal bag by your feet, you'll have to move it when you have the seat in reclined or fully flat bed position.
The only option is to get your purse/wallet/passport holder out of your bag and put it in the netted area underneath the flat screen.
Then put your bag in the overhead compartment.
The fully flat horizontal bed position is surprisingly roomy. I can stretch out as I am 5'8". You'll need to take your shoes off to be more comfortable.
It was a night flight from KL but as I was sick, I could not get to sleep that easily. Didn't help with a cough or two every half hour or so. I felt
sorry for the others.
The good:
- comfortable seats, made extra plush by the seat/bed cover.
- service and cabin crew
- big flat screen for entertainment. I think it was 14".
- satays for entree.
- chef on call. pre ordered meals.
- enclosed seating.
- Porsche designed amenities kit.
The not so good:
- no room to put your belongings by your feet when seat is reclined/flat.
- still need to climb over the aisle passenger in the 2-seat configuration if seated in the window seat.
2017 Qantas A330 Syd-Hnl-Syd:
For this flight I had successfully avoided getting sick before my holiday to Hawaii. So this time I enjoyed every minute in Qantas business class.
The flight to Honolulu was an overnighter. So the aim was to eat and go to sleep. Food was served fairly early and virtually everyone was flight in bed.
Eventhough the flat bed was very comfortable, I didn't really sleep. I closed my eyes and tried but still could hear the ambient aircraft noise.
Should have used the earplugs that came in the amenities kit.
The way back was a day flight. Watched a couple of movies. So good with big flat touch screen. So many options.
Afterwards I rested on the flat bed again.
Following each meal I had a cup of tea. So nice to have it in proper cup and saucer.
In business class it feels like that 24 passengers was all there is.

The good:
- Very comfortable seats, quite wide, made extra plush by the seat/bed cover.
- Service and cabin crew
- Big flat screen for entertainment. I think it was 15".
- Personal table space.
- Qantas pajamas on overnight flight.
- 1-2-1 seat configuration.
- small stowage nook by the side of your feet.
The not so good:
- Food service was slightly slow.

PREMIUM ECONOMY CLASS Review
2018 Virgin B777 Syd-Lax-Syd:
I heard Virgin's Premium Economy was good....and it was....very good.
It started off with a welcome drink. You then get to settle in your wide seat. The legroom was enormous.
I estimated about 30cm between my knee and the seat in front.
No problems with the passenger in front reclining their seat.
After the flight levels out a menu is given and you get to choose your meal and drink.
A little later the flight attendant prepares your tray with a white table cloth, the cutlery and serves the meal.
Proper cutlery and wine glass are used.
Once the meal is finished they offer coffee or tea. Not your ordinary pot that they serve but Nespresso.
Then you get to try and rest by reclining the seat. It felt as if it reclined down to 45 degrees.
Very impressive.
I really like Virgin's premium Economy.
The 13 hour or so flight to Los Angeles was so comfortable.
